Heavy Vehicle Driver TrainingThank you for taking an interest in our Certificate IV course in Heavy Vehicle Driving Instruction. The Certificate IV in Heavy Vehicle Driving Instruction is the recommended entry requirement for anybody wishing to enter the Transport and Logistics industry as a Heavy Vehicle Driver Trainer.

Upon successful completion, you can commence full time, part time, casual or self-employed work. This accredited course includes the skills and knowledge required to become a Qualified Heavy Vehicle Driving Instructor (also known as a Driver Trainer) able to seek employment in fields such as Learn to Drive, Licensing and Defensive Driver Training.

This qualification is the recommended entry requirement for anybody wanting to become a Heavy Vehicle driver trainer. Our course has been designed and developed to provide you with the information, training and skills you will require to become a qualified professional Heavy Vehicle driving instructor turning you into a valuable asset and allowing you to start work immediately with any driving school or driver training business.

COURSE AND EMPLOYMENT PATHWAYS

By completing this course you will gain the skills and knowledge required to start your career as a heavy vehicle driver trainer. As a heavy vehicle driver trainer, you will have the choice of starting your new career as a full time, part-time or casual employee of a driving school or as an independent heavy vehicle instructor working for oneself.

FURTHER STUDY OPTIONS

On completion of this course, you may wish to enrol and complete the TLISS00162 Driving Instructors Skills Set or the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification. Both the TLISS00162 Driving Instructors Skills Set or the TAE40116 qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge required by VicRoads LTO criteria to become an accredited licensing testing officer (LTO) for an accredited VicRoads licensing testing provider. The TAE qualification or Driving Instructors Skills set will also provide you with the opportunity to specialise in the heavy vehicle driver training industry by qualifying you to teach and assess in areas such as corporate driver training.

BEFORE YOU ENROL

Before you enrol into this course you may wish to check out our student administration portal or the terms and conditions you are bound by when you enrol into one of our courses. The information found within these two areas will highlight any generic expectations we will have from you and provide you with an understanding of your required commitment, and required code of conduct when enrolling with our school. During your information session, you will also be issued with a course product disclosure statement (PDS). Our PDS will highlight any specific course-related expectations or responsibilities requirement by you throughout the duration of your course.

A hard copy of the PDS will be supplied to you during your free, no-obligation course information session. During this time, our course coordinator will walk you through this document. At the end of your information session, you will be welcome to take home your PDS document.

VICTORIAN COURSE FEES FOR 2020

HOW TO ENROL INTO THIS COURSE

Anybody wishing to enrol into this course must complete our enrolment process which includes filling out an online enrolment form, providing us with valid identification documents (drivers licence, medicare card etc…) and attending a free 1-hour course information session, which is also known as our pre-enrolment session.

To begin the enrolment process, simply look through the table below and click the ‘Enrol Now’ button that corresponds with your preferred course. Please note that by completing an online enrolment form, you will have only started the enrolment process. Your enrolment into this course will only be accepted after you have completed our 1-hour information session and after you have been given the opportunity to read, review and sign the course PDS document which will be provided and explained to you during the information session.  

PLEASE NOTE: If you are unable to complete our enrolment form online, please contact our office and one of our staff will be more than happy to assist you.

 

OUR ENROLMENT PROCESS

Once you have completed your enrolment form and it has been successfully submitted and received by our office, the following enrolment process is applied:

STEP 1)

You will receive a confirmation text message (SMS) from our office informing you that we have received your enrolment form.

NOTE: This text message is only sent during business hours and may take between 1 to 4 hours to arrive as this text message is only sent to you once our team have your enrolment form in their hands.

STEP 2)

During this phase in our enrolment process, you will receive either two or three emails from our enrolment team. These emails may include:

  • A welcome letter which contains information and instructions on how to access your course, together with your trainer’s contact details, the location your training will take place, the time your training will commence, your PDS and any other important information that is relevant to your course.
  • A tax invoice and/or receipt; and finally
  • An email containing information on your USI

NOTE: It may take anywhere between 1 – 24 hours for our emails to arrive in your inbox during this stage. Please remember to check the spam or junk folders as servers like Microsoft (Hotmail) and Google (Gmail) have been known to block our email attempts.

STEP 3)

During the third and final step in our enrolment process, you receive a final text message (SMS) from our enrolment team. This text message will confirm that your enrolment has been processed by our team and will list any or all emails that we have sent you.

TRAINING VENUE

The course will be delivered at our Training Centre which is located at Building 7, 16a Keilor Park Drive, East Keilor, Victoria 3033.

For group or corporate courses, this course can also be delivered on-site at your location. For additional information on Group or Corporate courses, please contact our office and speak with the course coordinator. 

COURSE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

There are no entry requirements for this qualification as stated by the TLI41318 Training Package.

COURSE ENTRY RECOMMENDATIONS 

In order to successfully participate in this course, we strongly recommend that you posses that following criteria and personal skills prior to enrolling into this course:

  • Possess a current, full and unrestricted Australian Light, Medium or Heavy Rigid Drivers Licence/Endorsement (as a minimum). Students must hold the licence/endorsement pertinent to the relevant vehicle category being: Light Rigid, Medium Rigid, Heavy Rigid, Heavy Combination or Multi-Combination.
  • Fulfil all of the relevant State or Territory regulatory requirements with regard to heavy vehicle licensing. (Refer to the VicRoads website for further information)
  • The instructor’s LL&N (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) are expected to be equivalent to Level 3 of the ACSF.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be required to complete an LLN indication assessment prior to your enrolment being accepted into this course. The outcome of this assessment will not stop you from successfully enrolling or completing this course. This LLN indication assessment is solely for the benefit of your trainers and assessors. It will provide them with the information they need to support you through this qualification. If you have any concerns about the LLN assessment, please speak with us first as we are always happy to help.

  • Have an understanding of the operations of a manual gearbox (Manual Vehicle)
  • Have reasonable computer skills to be able to work the computer and browse the internet
    (ONLY REQUIRED FOR BLENDED DELIVERY AND PART-TIME STUDENTS. FULL-TIME STUDENTS WILL BE ASSISTED BY THEIR IN-CLASS TRAINERS)
  • Have the ability to take on new information and be willing to change personal habits.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Each unit of competence will be assessed. All assessments will be based on the principles of CBT (Competency-Based Training). A successful outcome for this course will be determined by a range of different methods including:

  • Assessment or student workbook
  • Written assessments
  • Observation of simulated and practical activities
  • Structured questioning and discussion
  • Written or verbal questioning at the completion of each session.

NOTE: It is completely understandable that you may have some concerns about the assessment process, 90% of students in our experience who are returning to study have these types of concerns. Rest assured, you will not be left to your own devices. Our courses are fully supported by our staff. Our assessments all come with video explainers (recorded assessment walk-throughs) that inform you of what is expected by each assessment and how to go about completing your assessment.  In addition, during your pre-enrolment session (course information session) our program coordinator will run you through how each unit is assessed providing you with this information before you even enrol. 

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) | DIRECT CREDIT TRANSFER / MUTUAL RECOGNITION (DCT/MR)

Intelligent Training Solutions will consider any credit or exemptions for previous studies or industry experience you have obtained. This may be through formal or informal training, paid or unpaid work experience. An application for DCT or RPL will be completed via a formal interview process prior to your enrolment. Further information is available by speaking with our course coordinator.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Outside of scheduled class time, you may be required to access your emails, the internet and our student portal as part of this course. It is recommended that you have access to a working computer at home that allows a connection to the internet.

We recommend that each student undertaking this course obtains the following resources and equipment:  

  • Working pens, pencils and highlighters 
  • A4 lined workbook for taking notes (minimum 150 pages)
  • 1 x 2D ring folder, 1 x presentation folder, 10 x plastic sheet protectors
  • An active, working email account
  • Laptop computer (not required but useful)
  • USB memory stick with 4GB memory minimum
  • Working digital camera (mobile phones with built-in cameras  can be used)
  • UV approved sunglasses, Sunscreen 50+ minimum, Sun hat and suitable shoes for driving. We have a NO Shoes, No Drive policy!

NOTE 1: You will have access to a laptop computer and internet while studying with us in class.
NOTE 2: For those students intending to study this course as a blended delivery or part-time course and who don’t have access to a working computer at home, Intelligent Training Solutions will provide you with the option of renting a laptop computer to take home for only $10.00 per week. Conditions apply.

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will be issued with a Record of Results and a Certificate of Completion within 30 days of your final successfully assessment. This is subject to all course fees being paid in full or the existence of an approved payment plan or arrangement.
