Unique Student Identifier

Accredited Courses (VET Course)

Students enrolled in a VET (Vocational Education and Training) course must provide Intelligent Training Solutions with their Unique Student Identifier (USI) if they wish to receive an award (Certificate) for the training they completed. A student’s USI is their individual education number for life. It also creates an online record of your Australian training achievements.

You will need a USI if you are:

  • undertaking Nationally Recognised Training
  • a higher education student seeking Commonwealth financial assistance (eg. a HECS-HELP loan)
  • a higher education student graduating in 2023 or beyond

Students who do not wish to receive an award (Certificate) do not need to provide their USI. A student can enrol in a course without providing their USI; however, Intelligent Training Solutions cannot issue a student with an award (Certificate, Statement of Attainment, or Record of Results) without the student’s USI. Without a USI, a student will still gain the knowledge, skills, and experience from the enrolled course, a student will just not receive an award for their efforts.

NOTE: A student pays their enrolment fees to attend and participate in a course, not to receive a Certificate.

For more information, please visit the USI website: https://www.usi.gov.au/students. Also, please refer to our FAQs for additional USI information.

Non-Accredited Courses

Intelligent Training Solutions does not require a student’s USI for enrolment in a non-accredited course. For example, a defensive driver course is a non-accredited course.

Applying for a USI

Students must apply for their USI via the USI website. To create your USI or to amend personal details linked to your USI, visit:  https://www.usi.gov.au/
