FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions on this course; please click on any questions below to expand the content.
IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
If you work with, or supervise others working with, materials that contain crystalline silica, such as concrete, bricks, stone, or engineered stone, then this course is designed for you. It’s particularly relevant for site supervisors, team leaders, and those responsible for implementing and overseeing safe work practices involving respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Whether you’re in construction, demolition, manufacturing, or another related industry, this course provides practical, non-alarmist training that’s directly applicable to your role.
DO I NEED TO HOLD THIS QUALIFICATION IN VICTORIA?
Not always – but highly recommended!
In Victoria, current WorkSafe regulations require individuals who supervise or manage workers involved in tasks that generate crystalline silica dust to complete silica safety training. However, unlike some other states, Victoria does not specify that this training must be an accredited course.
That said, while there is a wealth of useful silica awareness information available to employers and businesses, it’s always a smart move to ensure your team receives training that meets a nationally recognised standard. Completing a course like this, aligned with the unit CPCSIL4001 or CPCSIL3001, helps demonstrate your commitment to best practice and ensures consistency across jurisdictions.
So while it may not be mandatory in Victoria to complete an accredited course, it’s certainly a strong recommendation, especially for businesses aiming to stay ahead of compliance and safety obligations.
IS THIS COURSE ACCEPTED BY WORKSAFE AROUND AUSTRALIA?
Is this course accepted by WorkSafe?
Yes. This course delivers the nationally recognised unit CPCSIL4001 – Supervise and manage work with products and materials generating respirable crystalline silica, which meets WorkSafe’s mandated training requirements for supervisors and managers working with materials that contain crystalline silica.
As an alternative, students may also elect to enrolment in the CPCSIL3001 – Work with Products and Materials Containing Crystalline Silica instead of the CPCSIL4001 as both these courses are on the approved silica training list. These courses have been recognised by regulators in these states as compliant options for meeting their silica safety obligations.
While Victoria does not yet mandate a specific accredited course, this training can still be used to demonstrate best practices and a commitment to safe work standards in line with national expectations.
Developed in consultation with industry experts, our silica safety training is designed to be both compliant and practical—providing real-world skills that can be applied immediately in the workplace.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE ACT
It’s important to note that only the ACT requires a specific silica course (10830NAT) to be compliant. These course has been developed by the CFMEU and requires an approved CFMUE provider to deliver this course.
WHAT IF I AM NOT CONFIDENT USING A COMPUTER OR I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER OR THE INTERNET?
Intelligent Training Solutions strongly recommends contacting our office before enrolling in this course for those who are not confident with a computer. This way, our trainers and support team can discuss the online requirements with you, potentially finding a way to assist you throughout your course.
WHAT IS INVOLVED WITH THE FACE-TO-FACE TRAINING SESSION?
The face-to-face training sessions are fun, interactive, hands-on sessions that use a variety of delivery methods to share information with students. Information is presented to you in a conversational delivery approach, with lots of real-world scenarios, videos, modern presentations and, most importantly, a direct focus on practical, easy-to-implement approaches and techniques.
